Screenwriting NYC
How do you write a screenplay that might get bought by studio or a production company? Write a compelling script that’s impossible to stop reading, vividly cinematic, properly formatted, and realistically produce-able.

Our screenwriting courses will help you meet these criteria, and also guide you in creating characters, building plots, shaping scenes, sharpening dialogue, and, of course, peddling your script. Whether you seek to write big Hollywood movies or low-budget indies, we’ll show you what it takes to get in the screenplay game.

Master Class
Screenwriting | 10-week Workshop

The Screenwriting Master Class provides students deeply immersed in the writing of a screenplay with the opportunity to work with an experienced screenwriter and other dedicated writers in a small class setting. The class is devoted almost exclusively to workshopping— the reading, critiquing, and discussion of student screenplays. Every student will be allowed to workshop an entire screenplay. Class size is limited to six students, all of whom have completed a screenplay and are experienced in the workshop process.

Prerequisites: The following are prerequisites for students who take the Screenwriting Master Class:
  • A complete screenplay
  • Completion of two terms of Gotham’s Screenwriting II class
  • Acceptance by Gotham based on a sample of the student’s work
Registration: To be accepted into the Screenwriting Master Class all students must first submit a sample of their work. Your writing sample should be a complete or nearly completed screenplay. Ideally, you will submit the screenplay you plan to workshop in the Screenwriting Master Class. If that material is not yet available, you may submit another screenplay. You submit your work as part of your registration. Be sure to have your writing sample ready when you click the Enroll button, below.

A Note on the Class: All students in this class will be expected to read and critique segments of one hundred pages or more per week. The success of the class depends on the full participation of all students. Students should only take this course if they are confident they can handle the weekly load of reading and critiquing. To make this more manageable, students should have already done most or all of the work on the screenplay that they plan to present to the class before class begins.
